Why Thermal Checks Are Important In The Fight Against Coronavirus!

October 09, 2020    by Jade Communications Staff

Our world was taken by surprise just a few months ago when a flu-like epidemic that targeted the respiratory system, quickly spread from country to country to rise to the level of a pandemic in a matter of mere weeks. Our lives were interrupted in one way or another as our leaders devised plans to help stop the spread of this virus. Countless research has been done over this time to help us better understand the coronavirus and what steps are effective in slowing its spread. One such strategy was the use of temperature checks to help screen persons that might be carrying the virus.

SARS-CoV-2, better known as COVID-19 or coronavirus is a newly defined type of coronavirus that first emerged in China in December 2019. While many people refer to COVID-19 as coronavirus, the term (coronavirus) refers to a type of virus of which there are many different kinds, some disease-causing. COVID-19 is spread from person to person through droplets in the air. Symptoms include cough, fever or chills, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, headache, new fatigue, nausea or vomiting, and congestion or runny nose. Because fever is a common symptom of the disease, one of the ways to screen it has been checking persons for an above-average temperature (37.8C or greater).

As many businesses have been seeking ways to modify their operations so that they could continue to service their customers/clients, temperature checks as a screening method have become quite popular. Some businesses have employees stationed at their entrance point with temperature guns, manually checking the temperature of persons wishing to enter the premises. Thanks to new technology, businesses can now have automated camera systems installed to cut out the need for someone to manually check temperatures, eliminating the risk for that person. One such company offering this technology is InVid. We at Jade Communications have partnered with them to offer this technology to our clients.

With InVid Tech Thermal Body Temperature Solutions, you can have either a custom-engineered tablet or camera system installed at your chosen point of access (doorway, reception area, etc) which can accurately read the temperature of a single person with an accuracy of <0.54º F. You can customize the system to alert you when anyone passes through whose temperature is above the threshold set. You can also customize your settings to either alert you or deny entry to persons above the threshold or who aren’t wearing a mask. Check out this video to see how it works.
